Hanihara, a .three-year-old half-brother to Mr. McCann, of which Colonel Robert Neville, his owner and breeder, expected great tilings, broke one of his legs while being schooled over the jumps at Belmont Park oue day last week aud was .destroyed. Superintendent Gorman of the Belmont Park course, has the steeplechase course in line shape. He has had a number of men working on it all summer as he promised to do when presented with a silver tea set at the close of the spring meeting last May by the owners, trainer and riders of steeplechasers. The reason Tom Williams engaged "Walter Miller is characteristic of the man. In comment he says: "Our California people like Miller and I thought it a good move to secure him at any cost." When Mr. Williams landed in New York, Miller had Irtnally agreed to ride for Burlew and ONeill at New Orleans next winter.
