BROOKLYN JOCKEY CLUB STAKES. Under the present conditions western owners of promising young horses arc forced to look to the east for stake engagements to a much greater extent than in the days when Chicago, St. Louis, Memphis, Nashville and Kansas City afforded abundant opportunities for profitable engagements. To theni it is now a matter of decided importance that such prominent racing organizations as the Brooklyn Jockey Club, AAestciiestcr Racing Association and Brighton Beach Racing Association arc each offering a list of rich stakes to close about a week hence, and which will be run in 190S, 1009 and 1010. The Brooklyn Jockey Club Stakes are the following: To be run in 1!0S. Two-year-olds Great American Stakes, ,000 added, 5-S mile. Treiuont Stakes, ,000 added, about 3-4 mile. Expectation Stakes, ,000 added, 5-S mile. Hudson Stakes, ,000 added, 5-S mile. Criterion Stakes, fillies, ,000 added, 5-S mile. To be run in 100!. Three-year-olds Brooklyn Derby, ,000 added, 1 1-2 miles. Carlton Stakes, ,000 added, 1 mile. Gazelle Stakes, fillies, ,500 added, 1 1-10 miles. The foregoing are all to close for now yearlings, and are all long-established events, well known to all horsemen. Their conditions and endowment of added money are unchanged. All rank among the highly desirable prizes of the American turf. Entries will close at midnight of Tuesday, October 15.
