ENGLISH STEWARDS SEE THE LIGHT. The English steeplechase stewards will probably pass the following amendment to Its rules at its next meeting: "In the case of steeplechase and hurdle races it shall be in the power of the stewards, at their discretion, to award to a horse which has been disqualified for jostling, otherwise than as the result of foul riding on the part of such horses rider, the position in the race following that for which lie had been disqualified." Such a rule applies now in California to flat racing, and lias been found to work satisfactorily. It i3 expected to bring up some spirited discussion, and the action of the conservative British authorities will be awaited with interest.
