Chief Hayes, favored by the going and luckily and forwardly placed from the start, wore the leader down and scored in the last stride of a long stretch drive. Golden Shore, particularly well served by the going, made the running to the last fifty yards and then succmnbed in an unexpectodly grand effort. Zipango, seemingly outrun for the first half, closed up steadily in the last half. Troublemaker tired after close i.nd strenuous pursuit of the leader and went lame finally. AVes, apparently anchored by his weight, was also handicapped by the stiff going. Phil Finch broke llatfooted, but held his position well and gained slowly in the last half.
