FIVE CHOICES FAIL AT WINDSOR. Detroit, Mich., October 0. The layers reaped rich rewards at Windsor this afternoon. Favorites were bowled over with a regularity that was painful. Cock Sure, winner of the third race, was tlie only successful cludee .of tlie afternoon. The going was still deep and holding, and horses which could not run over a heavy track might just as well have remained in their stable. J. Burttsehell, the Texas turfmnn, furnished two of the winners in Cock Sure and Oberon. It was Cock Sures first appearance in Burttschells colors, ho having purchased ithe horse only a few days ago from W. M. Ryan. Tlie going just suited Cock Sure, and he made an exhibition of his field, leadiug all the way and winning in a romp by four lengths. The only close finish of the day came with the running of the fifth race, in which Thistle Do beat tbe favorite, Excitement, a scant length after a great stretch drive. Oberon and Cock Sure were lwth ridden by J. Murphy, who also had the mount on Letouatchie. The latter was one of the outsiders in her race, speculation being confined to Awless and Lady Erniy. Leto-halehie never left the result in doubt, however, for directly after the barrier was sprung she liomided to the front and led her field throughout, winning in little letler than g canter at the end. Edward Trotter has bought of A. Brown and Co. the chestnut horse Peter Sterling. The price paid was said to have been ,000. Peter Sterling will be snipped to California with the remainder of the Trotter horses. The contract of jockey Mulcaby, the promising apprentice rider who has been showing such good, form on the Canadian circuit this summer, haw been purchased by James Johnson, an eastern horseman, and the boy will probably leave for New York within the next few days.
