RIDERS OF STAKE WINNERS. SIX JOCKEYS WHO HAVE LANDED TEN "OR MORE EVENTS. Knapp, E. Dugan, Radtke, J. Lec, R. McDan-iel and Diggins Are the Leaders in the Second Division This Year. Details of the stakes won by the five jockeys who have guided the winners of twenty or more stake races this year were published in Daily Racing Form of Sunday, October 0, tlie riders in question being Miller, Mountain, Notter, Nicol and J Garner. A second group embraces six riders who have ten or more and less than twenty stake races to their credit. First in this group in re- N spect to aggregate value of stakes won is W. Knapp. It is hut a few years since he was riding over Chicago tracks so diminutive that he was jocularly dubbed "Big Bill" Knapp, but, comparatively, he is now "Big Bill" in earnest, and a jockey of skill and experience. That he is a good judge of pace was shown conclusively when lie rode Los Angeleno to victory at Oakland early In the year in the most remarkable and closely contested four-mile race ever run in this country. In his list of important winnings are the Coney Island Jockey Club Stakes on Frank Gill, Brighton Derby on Charles Edward, Twin City Handicap on Nealon, Spinawaj- Stakes on Julia Powcl, and fillies half of the Matron Stakes on Stamina. Equaling Knapp in number of stake winners ridden is the rising lightweight E. Dugan. This boy lias advanced in skill rapidly this year, aud unless increasing weight or had habits overtake him, should have a great career in the saddle before him. He has ridden the winners of sixteen stakes, of which the Annual Champion, Great Filly, Neptune and Great Eastern were the most valuable and most important. Like Knapp and E. Dugan, the erratic Radlki; has sixteen stakes to his credit. When on good terms with himself he is as good as the best present-day riders, but his fiery temper keeps Iiim in hot water and impairs his usefulness greatly. His most notable successes were in the Trcmont, Mermaid, Ladies, Expectation, Juvenile and Broadway stakes, and the Marlboro aud Champlain Handicaps. The colored rider, J, Lee, has an even dozen stake races to his credit, of which the Latonia Derby, Latonia Oaks and Kentucky Oaks were the most valuable. R. McDauiels record of eleven stakes won was mainly achieved in Canada", but lie has done well recently ou the Now York tracks in winning the Autumn Stakes at Sheepshead Bay and the Jerome Handicap at Belmont Park. Aside from these the Toronto Cup. and Produce Stakes at Toronto were his principal successes. The last in this list, the lightweight boy Diggins, has ridden tlie winners of ten "stakes, of which the Bush Cup Handicap at New Orleans and the Mount Royal Handicap at Montreal were the most valuable.
