M ARGOT WINS WINDSORS STAKE. Detroit, Mich.. October 1C The Windsor Racing Association offered its patrons an excellent program this afternoon. The feature was the Detroit and Windsor Ferry Handicap, for two-year-olds, with an added value of .fl.000. The attendance was large, the pleasant weather bringing out the full quota of racegoers. Form players fared well, as three of Hie races were won by favorites. The result of Hie stake proved very unsatisfactory, however, not that the victory of Joseph McLennaiis Ally, Margot. Mas not a popular one, as there is no better liked owner racing on the circuit than McLennan. It was the wretched handling of Goes Past that was displeasing. Goes Past had top weight, and on public form certainly figured as a contender. The officials permitted the owners of the filly to ride Hteeplcchase jockey T. Rae, and this ruined whatever chance she might have had. Uae no doubt did his best, but he was woefully lacking in skill, and messed the lilly about all the way. When he linally got clear in tiie stretch run Goes Fast closed Tvlth a great burst of speed and finished right on top of the first two. McLennan, thinking that Mar-got had no chance, offered uie services of jockey Iturtou to the Goes Past people, but they elected to ride Rae, and lost whatever chance they had of winning by doing so. Margot showed a great flight of speed in the race, leading her field throughout sinil winning cleverly by a length and a half from IKetchemlkc. Virginia Maid was turned loose by her people In the second race and backed for a killing. Resides spreading a coinmisison around the country in the handbooks and oolrooms, they backed the lilly at the track from 40 to 15 to 1. At the finish the backers of Virginia Maid were shaking hands with, themselves thinking that they had won and were not a little surprised when they discovered that the official placing had given the race to Lexington Lady. Virginia Maid and Lexington Lady had run head and head all the last three furlongs :iud as they flashed past the winning mark, were ko close together that only the judges could correctly place them.
