THE WASHINGTON RACING SITUATION. New York, October 10. There have been many disquieting rumors lately in refence to the situation at Benning this fall. The authorities there have been very active in the suppression of hand-liooks and bucket shops and by some it is taken to mean that they also would go after the race track. The case which was. fought out there last fall and resulted in the perambuiatory system of booking will not come up on appeal it is believed before the coming meeting. A gentleman from Washington who is pretty conversant witli the city affairs was at Belmont Park yesterday and said that to the best of his knowledge there would lie no trouble tills fall, that everything would remain as it is pending the decision of this appeal. Ilis opinion was that while the authorities were taking all the means at their command to suppress the handbook, there was no disposition to disturb the racing situation so far as the coming meeting was concerned. ; I i ; ! j .
