RACING GOSSIP FROM OAKLAND. Oakland, Cal., October 10. The horses here are beginning to get their regular morning gallops now in preparation for opening day. Burleigh and his stable companion, Gypsy King, are being worked together and never looked better. Cigarlighter, Cloudlight. and Optician were among the old horses seen on the track today. Johnson and Dodson have seenred stalls for six horses and will be here from Spokane in a few days. Sidney F., Columbia Girl and the two-year-old, Moore Johnson, are the best horses in their string. W. W. Finn is back from Petaluma, where he has been talking over a Minnesota racing proposition with Harry Stover. Jockey Ileatherton came along with his employer and is looking for a cottage near the track for his mother and himself. Heatherton will return to Petaluma in a few days to superintend the shipment of the stable of seven horses, and will also bring along ten for Stover, Native Son and Sevenfull among them. Finn says that Stover has some very promising yearlings at Kenilworth Farm, several of them having worked an eighth close to twelve seconds recently. C. C. McCafforty arrived from Seattle yesterday and is expecting nine of his horses In from there today. He will put Dr. Leggo in training for an early campaign. Roy Offutt has stable room for twelve horses reserved, and will bring Taylor George, John Lyle and ten others down from Sacramento, where they have been since Seattle closed. Offutt is undecided about his racing plans, owing to the suspension of his trainer. C. A. Ross, last May for the inconsistent running of the horse. Marshal Ney, which Ross was handling for J. C. McLaughlin.
