When a two-year-old he won but four races out of twenty starts, two purses at Brighton Beach, the Keinsen Handicap at Jamaica and the Crand Consolation at Washington, the latter being the most important race won by him in 1001. He did not shine greatly as. a three-year-old, but always ran well in his races and won the Travers Stakes and Saranae Handicap at Saratoga, a track over which he has always raced in his best form. For the Travers he defeated Merry Lark, Clcnecho. Von Tronip, Bluclicr and Woodsaw, all very useful three-year-olds aftl ran its mile and a ipiartcr in 2:0S. Dandelion ripened into a cracking good four-year-old, fast, a stayer and a good weight carrier. In Ids first race he ran second to Crapple for the Metropolitan Handicap. Then, after winning a purse at Bel-moiil Park, he ran second to Tokalon in the P.rnoklyii Handicap, only beaten a head and having The Picket, I roller. Merry Lark, Koseheu, Oxford, !o P.etwecn. Oliver Cromwell, Lord of the Vale, fold-sniith, Sccurjly, Snow King and Delhi behind him. His next race was for the Suburban Handicap and here again he was beaten a head, this time by !o Between, and seemed to be a hard-luck horse. In the Commonwealth Handicap, won by Sir Iliion, lie fell when running well. Then his bad Itiek lied and In succession lie won the Invincible Handicap at Brighton l.cach, and the Saratoga Handicap, Delaware Handicap and Clianiplaiu Handicap at Saratoga, running a mile anil a quarter in the Saratoga in -:03, with 1 1:: pounds up; a mile in the Delaware in 1 ::!Sg, with 1-0 pounds and the mile and an eighth of the Champlain in 1 :M with 110. His only other winning race of the year was a purse at Shccpsheail liay. This year Dandelion began by running unplaced to Clorilier, Okenite and Kosobcn for the Metropolitan Handicap at Belmont Park, but a few days later beat Nealon for a purse at a mile and a sixteenth. He ran unplaced in the Suburban and Brighton Handicaps, was second in the Invincible, Merchants and Citizens". Omnium and Occidental Handicaps, third in the Commonwealth and Saratoga Handicaps and won the Seashore at Brighton Bench, Champlain at Saratoga, Ocean at Slieepshcad Pay and the Oriental at Oraves-end. His performances in general were fully up to his high-class form of the previous year and it is more ban probable that he will be found able to pay bis way in the racing of IO0S.
