NOTES OF THE TURF. W. P. Fine has retired Princess Wheeler to W. B. Jennings Woodland farm, Woodland, Cal., for the winter. Jockey Dave Nicol arrived in Chicago yesterday for a visit with relatives and friends before going to New Orleans, where "he will ride for Fred Cook; this winter. Trainer J. R. Walker has shipped a carload of: horses to Los Angeles for J. J. Walsh ami Mr.-Walsh will follow with another car containing the remainder of the stable hi a few weeks. Mr. Walsh has a number of good horses in his stable and expects to have a good season at the Santa Anita track. The race won by Infanta has been protested on the ground that the ownership of the horse was not lyoperly stated, and pending investigation, the entry of Infanta has been suspended. The horse was bought in the name of A. R. Hamilton, said to be acting as agent of I. Howard, and ran her first race in the name of P. T. Cliinn. Charles Armstrong, a writer in Horse and Hounds, ias this comment: "If the horse be a gentleman, treat him as such; if not, pat him, and call him a gentleman, and lie will soon behave as such. "A bead like a snake, and a skin like a mouse. An eye like a woman, bright, gentle, and brown, With loins and a back that .would carry a house. And quarters to lift him smack over a town."
