MEREDITH MEDIUM OF A KILLING. Leaves Maiden Ranks at Pimlico, Backed Heavily Billie Hibb-s Wins a Race. Baltimore, Md., October P.l. The racing at. Pimlico today was full of surprises, and the talent generally had a rocky road to travel. Two well-planned coups fell by the wayside, and there was much confusion in the ranks of the plungers. Billio Hilibs made his first appearance since the spring meeting a a starter in the first race. He looked as big a cart, horse, and the wise ones would have none if him, thinking he was not up to a race. Jubilee, Miss Catesby and Do I.urgo got the heavy play. Billie Ilibbs, however, proved that appearances are deceitful. He broke away from the barrier with hi old alertness and simply spread-eagled his field. A good thing went wrong in the second race when Peter Knight beat out Water Dog. which bad been played down for a veal good thing. P.ut the worst jolt for the talent came in the third race. At the weights Kl Dorado looked, best, and a lot of money went in on him. Mr. Smithsou. his owner, made one of his characteristic, plunges and yave the tip to all his friends. A bad ride ruined Kl Dorados chances. lie was jostled at the start and Knglaniler pulled him up and before he got to limning, the horse was- a dozen lengths in the rear. On tlie turn Kiiglnndcr sent his mount up and, going around his horses, made up t he lost ground in a Jiffy. He turned wide coming into the stretch and look his mount to the extreme outside, losing several lengths. The race went to Ballot Box, who led all the way and just lasted. In the sixth race the heavy bettors put .Meredith, a maiden, over and they made the biggest killing of the meeting. Meredith opened at V, to 1. went back to J! and closed at 1! to 1.
