LONG SHOTS PREVAIL AT OAKLAND. Gemmell Defeats Proper and Other Cracks Money Muss Wins Again. Oakland, Cal., November 15. A fine field, including turf celebrities of the first rank, such as Proper, Hapid Water and May L. N., were engaged in the chief feature, the Healdsburg Handicap, over the Futurity course at Oakland today. None of this distinguished trio figured prominently in its running, however, the Issue being left to the fast horse, Gemmell, and II. G. Kedwells Silver Stocking, which finished noses apart, the former gaining the verdict in the very last stride. Proper was a beaten off third. Another sprinting affair, not a bit inferior to the stake in point of class and more interesting as a spectacle, wound up the afternoons program. Some of the fastest horses in local training participateii and the race developed into one of the most exciting and closely contested -struggles that has been witnessed since the present season began. Harry Stovers Glenheim Sister Jeanie gelding. Native Son, woii in the last stride of a tremendous closing drive, with almost the entire field closely bunched. Form backers fared badly on the afternoons ring business, only one favorite in Money Muss rewarding his supporters. Guy Burns fell far short of equalling his brilliant work of the day before, closing his afternoons saddle work with only one win to his credit. He failed lamentably on the two other favorites, Ritie-man and Pajaroita, being eliminated as a contender on the former at the start and defeating the latter by senseless and exhaustive pacemaking tactics. The weather was ideal, there is no diminution in attendance and interest, and thus far the racing has been exceptionally clean and attractive. The stewards are taking severest measures with jockeys who resort to foul riding and are unruly at the post. Scoville has been set down a week for breaking through the barrier with San Gil in the first race. Alfred Koenigsberger.. Peter Chrislianson and Henry Friesenhauseu are a trio of noted turf plungers lately arrived from the east.
