NOTES OF THE TURF. W. V. Daly will winter his stable at Hot Springs f tills year unless he adopts other plans. Jockey Gilbert Clifford, of the J. F. Williams lias a yearling black colt named Prudent, a half-brother to Prejuicio, by Colonel Wheeler Prejudice, which promises to be a coming good one. An English paper reports the -death of the stallion Pearl Diver, by poison administered by a discharged stableman. Pearl Diver was said to be the most successful sire in Soutli Africa. Enoch Wishard, who has charge of ilia Spreckels stable at Savannah, Ga., says that the track arid buildings at the Savannah plant make the best wintering quarters for horses -he has ever visited. .1. L. McGinnis lias shipped Frank Gill to Idle Hour Stock Farm in Kentucky for the winter. The horse will be mated to a half dozen mares before being brought back to New York next spring. Jockey W. Dugan now weighs about 130 pounds and says lie will not attempt to make riding weight. lie expects to acquire a few horses during the Oakland meeting and go in for racing as an owner and trainer in a small way. True Wing, which had a tendon severed when jumped on in the running of the Thanksgiving Handicap at Oakland, has been removed from the track by her owner, T. II. Ryan, to a veterinary hospital. True Wing will be retired to the stud upon her recovery. San Luis Obispo, Cal., is to have a race track with a grandstand and stalls. Mr.- Thomas Barrett, Jr., a prominent resident of that place, has iitter-estcd a number of his fellow citizens in the project,. A tract of land is to lie leased for n term of years, on which to build the track and erect the necessary buildings.
