i • • • l ; • i I EMPIRE CITY TRACK IMPROVEMENTS. Many improvcineiiis will he made iu the Yonkers course before the opening of the urates in August. A contract has already ben let for the construe lion of a new field stand. This was sadly needed last summer. Th.- field stand that was used last August was at the best only a temporary affair, and was miserably inadequate to the deanauds of the fielders. The new si.inil will be of steel ami eouereie and will be fully as large and probably larger than the present grandstand. There will be some minor changes made in the old grandstand aud in its approaches. The only change that will hi- made in the track itself is the opening up of the chute for the running of six furlongs races. At the last meeting this chule could not tie made ready iu time and all tin- races originally intended were run over a slim curs,, lo avoid starting the fields n a turn. Stabling facilities will be hollered by the eon slructiou of between 700 aud TOO additional stalls.
