FAVORITES ARE DECEITFUL. NEW ORLEANS RACING MARKED BY UNEX-FECTED RESULTS IN SLOW GOING. I laxman Runs in Something Like His Old-Time Form — Incla Gives Cella Another Race — I Ralbert Defeats Big Ben. New Orleans. La.. February 11.— -There was little Improvement in todays sport. The track is still in had condition, though drying out and improved as the afternoon progressed. Selling platers contested in all the races. Surprises were frequent, and poor jockeysbip contributed largely to bringing them altoul. Several cases of sudden improvement were also in evidence, enabling a smart coterie to profit handsomely. The best race on the card was probably the fourth. Ill which an average band of sprinters met. Big Ben was favorite, but Ualbert, under Notters masterful guidance won all the way from Koyal Onyx. Dr. McCluer again proved himself one of the best platers in the selling division by winning the sixth race after he appeared hopelessly beaten, caused by a poor send-off and much interference ou the lirs i turn. The closing race furnished a real good thing for H select few, who were aware of Hughes real form. He went into a long lead at once and never left the result in doubt, winning as his rider pleased from ;ilpin. Jockey Towers was mostly responsible for Ethel fans victory over .Fred Miilbollaud in the fifth race, lowers got Mulhoiland away in a rear posl-thin and Swain, under hustling tactics, managed to get tin- Kirwan tilly to lb • finish by a small margin. Jockey Lichcrl was susiiended by tile judges for six days for his rough riding in the third lace. Miss Nell, carded to stall in the opening race, was ordered si ratched by the officials, it being found that she was a three year-old. She was cerded as owned by A. V. Catching, who. it is raM, entered her in good fail li. believing she- was a two-year-old. 1. A. Rcnatid. who bred the tilly. however, notified the officials that she was a three-V.ir obi. The two-year old filly. Smart, owned by H. B. Duryea. which sustained an injury to her front leg by being kicked while at the jiost in her last race, had to be destroyed today. Secretary John B. Dillon of the Latouia track. arrived today to solicit entries to the stakes that will be. run at the Kenton County track. He will r-maiii here several days. J. J. MeCaffcriy and his connections are said to have backed Flaxinau extensively and mad ■ a handsome winning by that horses victory. Jockeys Notter and McDauiel carried off the riding honors, each piloting two winners.
