NOTES OF THE TURF. Former jockey Joseph Jones is making all of the riding engagements for jockey Clifford Gilbert at Oakland. Harry Froehlich. who recently bought Fairystreet out of a selling race for ,000, has sold the Ally to M. J. Hayes for ,200. Jockey Walter Miller Is devoting most of his evenings now to playing pool, and is said to be close to the Los Angeles chamRioushlp. It is said that the Highland Park Jockey Club will give a running meeting at the Windsor track during the first three weeks of September. Mansard pulled up lame iu his last race and owner Keene is inclined to give the old horse a rest before sending him to the post again. It was reported last fall that Harivy Payne Whitney would retire Brookdale Nymph to the stud this spring, but it Is now said that she will race again this year. Running Water, in H. B. Duryeas stable at slieepsliead Bay. is said to have recovered from an attack of illness during the early winter and is looking as well now as any horse at the track.
