UPSETS PLENTIFUL AT SANTA ANITA PARK. Roalta Defeats Rapid Water and Magazine — Colonel Bob and Rosegal in Match Race. Ln Angeles. Cal.. February IS.— The victory of Koalta in the feature race today was a sad Idow lo the public and talent alike. Kapid Water being most generously supported. Miller rode tiie Williams horse to perfection, got him off Hying and nursed him along skillfully throughout. Dugan was asleep at the i ost, getting Rapid Water off Hat-footed. At that the Hildreth horse tired badly when the pinch came. Jockey Miller left after the fifth race today for San Francisco, where he will ride several horses for Dr. Lowell and then return here in a few days. Bookmaker Bert Preston arrived here today. It is rumored that he was warned away from Oakland, but this he strenuously denies, and says he left liecauso there were too many liooks on at Oakland. It "is also rumored that "Boots" Duruell had a part interest in his Iwvok at Oakland and that this, in connection with some trouble lie got into by laying against Shenandoah recently, had caused the ban to be put on him. A match race has been made between Colonel Bob and Rosegal for .HH» a side at five and one-half furlongs, and will lie a feature of next weeks card, probably Wednesday. Colonel Bob will carry 110 and Kosegal HE. Anna May was in close quarters until turning into tlie stretch, where Miller found an opening and under a vigorous ride brought his mount iqi lo win in the last stride. Bill Mayhaui led to tic-last fifty yards and tired slightly, but finished an easy second. Mat tie Busscll was always in close contention and passed Horace II. on the turn into tlie stretch, where the latter swung wide and finished in the middle of the track, hut for which he would probably have won. dulla finished a fast-tiring third. Booger Red showed the nu st s|«-ed of those starting in the third race, led his opponents throughout and never left the result in doubt. Gossiper II. was well up all the way and finished gamely in i long stretch drive. The poor showing of Amiind sen was the second big disappointment the crowd suffered during tlie afternoon. Xadzu. notwithstanding his two successive victories, was neglected in the betting, but ran back to his previous races and easily defeated Sam Bernard and Chippewa, the equal choices.
