NOTES OF THE TURF. George Durker lias purchased the contract on apprentice jockey Vesper from W. T. Anderson. Edward Harmon, a Seattle man, Is at -Oakland to buy horses to race at The Meadows next summer. Major Cyrus Radford of the Adelbert Stud, says he will breed most of his mares this spring to his stallion, Ornus. Major P. P. Johnston, who has served as president of the National Trotting Association for twenty years, has been re-elected for another term. Jockey W. Riley, well known as "Sit Still" Riley, has arrived at Santa Anita Park and will ride as a free lance during the rest of the meeting. "Handriding" Kelly, who accepted Iris finst mount at Oakland last Saturday since the meeting at Spokane last fall, drew a 0 line for beating the barrier with May Amelia, which won the third race. W. S. Price claimed Laura Clay and Traffic out of the first and second races at Santa Anita Park last Friday, getting ltoth of them from R. L. Thomas. He secured Laura Clay for 25 and Traffic for ,025. H. K. Vingut says his four -year old bay filly, Waterspeed. by Watercolor — Sue Kit tie, which he lias entered liberally in the steeplechase events of the season, will show much better this spring than she did through the field last fall. Harry W. Smith, who won the Champion Steeplechase of 1900 at Morris Park, when riding his own horse. The Cad, is an exhibitor at the dog show at Madison Square Garden In New York. He is using The Cad as a hunter at his home in Worces-1 ter, Mass.
