SPEEDY SILK MAIDS PROMISING DAUGHTER. Lexington, Ky., March 7. — One of the brightest racing prospects among the fillies at the Kentucky Association -track is the first foal of that good race mare. S-Hkt Maid, whose career on the turf ended when she felf in the opening race of the abbreviated, betless meeting at Washington Park in 11X14. This filly is by Pirate of Penzance and is the property of R. K. Lewis, who owns her dam. She is now in the stable of W. A. Smith, who will train and race her this year. Early last fall she worked a quarter in Mi, and was turned out during the winter. Mr. Lewis has entered her in the spring stakes at Louisville and Latonia and later in the season she may he s nt east. The nine two-year-olds purchased by Mr. Smith from Colonel Milton Young as yearlings last fall, have been named as follows: Dusky Dame, br. f, by Pirate of Penzance— Dusk. Fuller, eh. c. by Requital— Cupfull. Lucky Ford, br. c, by Lackford— Distaff. Major Lawrence, ch. c, by Monsieur de LOrme— Lady Lawrence. Neaga, b. f. by Monsieur de LOrme- Noogs. Philip, b. c, by Nasturtium— Lady Phllura. Semic.ne. b. c. by Sempronius— Madine. Signor. b. c, by Sempronius — Lilith. Wine Man. ch. c. by Monsieur de LOrme — Wine Drop. These youngsters did not get their trial work until January and the day was a blustery one with snow falling at the time they were running. Philip and Neoga are regarded as the pic* of the band, they having shown ! est in the trial, which was accomplished in 23tj for the quarter. Philip is a stoutly made little horse, quick in breaking and has a handy way of going. He looks like an early money horse. Neoga is of the blocky type and is so well developed that she looks now like a three-year-old. She is over fifteen hands. The other filly. Dusky Dame. is taller by an inch, but is not of as good conformation and is not as quick in action. Wine Man is a big, stout, fully developed colt well worth remembering when racing time comes.
