DARTJMA RUNS FAST KILE IN CLOSING RACE. Defeats Merlingo and Gateway — Silverskin Takes His Third Sfraight— Toller Wins Again. Los Angelus, Cal., March 11. — Jockey McBride was set down indefinitely today for his suspicious ride on Gossiper II. in the fourth race last Monday. He was scheduled to ride the mare today, but Judg • Hamilton refused and Archibald was substituted, the result being that Gossiper II. ran in wonderfully improved form and was only beaten in th. last few strides. The vast difference of the mares performances prompted the judicial action. Apart from the last race th • racing was of mediocre quality. Silverskin won his third successive victory when the gray gelding outstayed Jossiper II. in the finishing strides after closing a tremendous gap in the stretch. Daruma set a fast pace in the closing race and won easily in 1 :.!:» for the mile. Merlingo clos.-d a big gap in the last half and finished an easy second. Gateway outstayed Kilter, the favorite for third place. Jockey Shilling won with one, of his six mounts, but finished outside the money only once, which was in the fifth race when he had the mount on Royal Rogue. President E. J. Baldwin has secured Walter Miller to ride Del Cruzados in the Colin Stakes next Saturday. The president of the Los Angeles Racing Association has not won any of the stakes run so far during the meeting and is anxious to place a stake to the credit of his stable before the season closes. It is expected that Lee Rose, Duke of Milan and several other good youngsters will be sent down from Oakland to start in the Colin Stake= A suit was filed in the Superior Court today by veterinary surgeon Thomas J. Ogle, who came here from New York last fall as the official veterinarian for the association. He was dismissed on the first day of the meeting. He now brings action to recover ,170, which represents the amount he would have received from the association for his services throughout the season. R. F. Carman announces that he has made arrangements with R. H. Harris to train his horses during the rest of the meeting. F. Wallhauser will send his long-distance horse. Livius, to Oakland to start in the Thornton Stakes, which will be run at that track next Saturday. Woodsman and Mamie Algol may also be sent along. R. F. Cawnan has purchased Colonel Jack from Mrs. W. H. Holland for a reported price of ,000. A number of horsemen here have been trying to secure the bay son of Pessara — Middy Morgan since lie defeated Veil and Magazine so impressively a week ago. Kilter pulled up very lame after the sixth race. James Blut". former trainer for R. F. Carman, received a telegram from W. Gerst today, asking him to report for duty at Memphis, April 2. The draw in today saw a falling off of three books, only twenty-three taking stands.
