+ . * | PROBABLE FAVORITE FOR THE CRESCENT | CITY DERBY. I 1 . L BURLEW and ONEILLS CHAPULTEPEC, BAY COLT, 3, BY GEROLSTEIN— GRACIOSITY. As half-brother to the very fast horse, De Mund, it was only natural that much should be expected from Chapultepec, and reports of his excellent speed were rife before lie made his debut in racing as a two-year-old. He hardly met the expectations based on his fast trials, but he was by no means a failure in his racing over the New York tracks. He won the Spring Stakes at Sheepshead Bay from Fancy and King James, and the Neptune Stakes at Brighton Beach, defeating Smoker, Sir Cleges, Magazine, Masque and others, besides running second to Firestone for the first half of the Double Event, second to Stamina for the second half of the same race, and second to Colin for the Brighton Junior Stakes, meeting distinguished op position in each case and acquitting himself creditably. His running at New Orleans was of such a character and Ms success so uniform that until recently it was thought that the Crescent City Derby was al soIutely at his command. The arrival of Meelick from California, and Pinkolas excellent showing recently, have served to modify this conviction. But in spite of this, Chapultepec along with his stable mate, Angelus, is almost certain to be the post favorite for the big race of Saturday. To date his record is as follows: Year. Sts. 1st. 2d. 3d. Unp. Won. 1907 14 3 3 1 7 6;487 1908 3 3 0 * O 4,780 Totals 17 6 3 1 7 1,267
