Horace H. showed dazzling speed throughout, but had to be hustled out sharply at the end to withstand I oreguards challenge. The latter began slowly, as usual, and had to go wide when turning for home, but closed a big gap in the last quarter and was wearing the winner down at the end. Ned .Train showed Hieed and gameness in a long stretch drh,. Melton Cloth finished fast. Mattie Russell tired when a sixteenth out after going a fast quarter. Overweights — Ned Jram, 2$ pounds. Orilene was not called on until rounding the far turn, where she singled out into an easy lead, holding the others safe thereafter. Summer Cloud, needlessly under the whip in the final drive, ran well and finished gamely. Kirkfield Belle showed the most early speed, but tired badly wehn the pinch came. Bardonia set the pace for the first half and momentarily loomed up as the probable winner when an eighth out. but tired under the whip at tlie end. Gateway ran sluggishly to the stretch and was taken wide, but closed up ground fast in the final quarter. Bird of Passage was going well at the end. Rubinon tired badly in the stretch drive. I.ois Cavanagh raced within striking distance to the stretch, then came on fast and, in a game finish under punishment, outstayed Dr. Mathews. The latter had to go wide when turning into the last quarter, but rallied in the final eighth and then unexpectedly tired in the closing strides. Sparkles closed a big gap and tired in the stretch drive. Barbette set the pace fast to the stretch, but was thoroughly beaten when an eighth out. Ruscimo and Taraban showed speed, but failed to stay. The winner was entered for 00; no bid.
