: YOUNGSTERS PREPARING AT MEMPHIS. Memphis. Tenn., March PS. — Raleigh Colston, the veteran colored trainer who rode the immortal Ten Broeck in some of his races and who has since developed many noted horses, the most recent examples being Montgomery, 1007 Crescent City Derby winner and this years Burus Handicap hero; Foun-taiuidue. Duelist. Rifleman and others, has a big barn full of promising baby racers at Montgomery Park with which he will soon invade eastern tracks in search of stake and purse plums for Chinn and For-sythe. There are brothers and sisters to many of tii • noted horses bred and raced by the Chinus at the Harrodsburg farm iu Kentucky, and Colston regards the list as the most promising he has handled. Horn a slave, althmrgh proud of that fact and having been sold by Frank llari er to John Harper, who owned and raced Longfellow and other famous racers years ago. Colston has been raised with the thoroughbred. His father handled the noted En quirer. also Kingfisher, a mighty horse in his day: Wanderer. Springbok. Searcher and others, and his mother often fed and watered the great Glencoe. At the early age of twelve years Colston rode Searcher to a mile record of 1:41 at the old Lexington course, which was the best American mark for many months. It was at the local track just a year ago that Colston sent Montgomery over the fastest trial mile ever witnessed by the timer. Negotiations were pending just prior to the trial for the sale of Montgomery to R. L. Thomas, hut after the pigeon-toed son of Pessara reeled off an astonishing performance Colston advised against the sale, with the result that Montgomery wore the Chinn and Forsythe silks iu the Crescent City Derby a week later, carrying thein to a brilliant victory. Later in the summer MM horse sold for double the amount Colston offered him to Thomas for. This season Colstou thinks he has some future greats that may compare with the cracks he has developed in he past. He thinks Montgomery the best horse he ever trained and says he does not hope for another such wonder. But there are sisters and brothers to famous racers in the following band. All are named with neat titles, this part of the undertaking being attended to by a little miss of the Chinn household In Kentucky, an example of nomenclature resting In the name, Cuiline Rhu French for Red Headed, which has been bestowed on a daughter of Rubits. therefore a sister to Berry Maid and a member of the Bramble family. She bears a -Hiking likeness, according to local horsemen, to the great Yo Tanibicii. both in cylor. action and general appearance. Lanc-r is an appropriately named youngster, a brother to Rifleman. Rifle Range, etc. Knamourita is a half sister to the speedy Flocarjine. Colstons favorite and the one that local rallblrds are waiting to wagrr on in his first start is Moorish King, a somber-looking son of Oddfellow and May Mack that showed his heels to all in the early trials. The older horses in the stable are Robert Cooper. Dorante. l-ordello. Berry Maid, the maiden Jeanne dArc, all three-year-olds.
