Vteate, In close quarters for the first sixteenth, soon drew out clear and, running to her reiwrted work, luiislied fast, easily holding the others safe through the final sixteenth. Annie Wells raced forwardly throughout and showed rare ganieness under the whip. Frieze made up much ground in the final quarter and finished fast under punishment, but found the distance loo short. La Reine Hindoo showed early speed, but tired badly in the final sixteenth. Bell of Brass tired. Fair Annie closed a gap. Scratched— 7345:5 Lady Quality, 108. Teacress, skillfully reserved in close pursuit of the winner for the first six furlongs, moved up on equal terms with him when an eighth out and intoned resolutely under the whip, but was not quite good enough. Ed Ball, outpaced for the first three-quarters, closed a big gap in the final quarter and finished very fast. Canardo ran a good three-quarters, but tired and swerved in the final sixteenth. The latter loomed up like the winner when an eighth out. but tired unexpectedly iu the closing strides. John C. Rice set a fast pace for a half, but fell away fast iu the final sixteenth. Buster Jones threatened to make a runaway race of it. but tired badly when challenged by the winner. Lady Chiswell, in a long stretch drive, outstayed Box Elder.
