NOTES OF THE TURF. II. G. Redwell has purchased the contract on jockey Lycurgus from YYilliam YYalker for 00. At a race meeting in Australia recently, seven races were run and all wer.- won by two horses. which were the property of one man. The skeleton of Persimmon will be mounted. King Edward has commissioned Rowland YYard, the noted English naturalist, to do the work. YYilliam YYalker says Stanley Fay will not recover for several months from the split hoof he sustained in the running of the Los Angeles Derby. D. Des Cordes has been appointed starter for th • Frepeh Jockey Tub to succeed Richard Figes, who recently resigned after twenty-five years of continuous service. J. M. McNames has sold his three-year contract on the services of apprentice jockey Yincent Jarvis to LVlward Dealy. Jarvis can ride at eighty-five pounds and will ride for Dealy at Seattle this summer. YYilliam Duiker has bought the four-year contract which H. M. Mason held on the services of Fred White, the apprentice rider who has lieen* exercising the Macdonough horses Mason is training this winter. American horses won all six races of the first day of the Cuban Racing Association meeting and were also sine ssM in the first five races of the second day. None started in the closiug race, it being for Cuban bred horses. Bookmaker Al Koenigsberg has purchased the two-year-old brown colt Mozart, by Relvidcre — Lu-• asta. from H. T. Griffin for a reiiorted price of :f:;.iMiO. Koenigsberg is buying a numb -r of horses whi.-h he will race on the New York tracks. II. I. YYilson. president of the Butte Jockey Club, says he would like to sell his sprinter Geniniell. but K unwilling to part with the horse for 1 ss than 5,000. Wilson says Oommell is too good to race at the Butte meeting and would send him cast if he had one or two others to send with him.
