FAST RACING AT OAKLAND. IMPORT NEARLY TIES THE TRACK RECORD IN HIS FAREWELL CONTEST. May Amelia Beaten Through Bad Luck at the Start — Flying Dance Scores in Runaway Fashion — Tawasentha in First. Oakland. Cal.. March 24. —Import signalized his last appca ranee at Oakland for the season by achieving a cantering victory in nearly track record time — 1:43| — in todays feature, the Tibin"on Handicap at onv mile and seventy yards. Some of the best horses in local training, including A. Muskodav. Cabin. J. C. Clem. Brookleaf. Sidney F.. Logistilla and Spring Ban. finished lieliind him. Import closed favorite in the betting, but was accorded only moderate support, despite the fact that the crack lightweight jockey iilbert was up. Horse and rider were greeted with much applause on their return to the scales. Tawasentha was the only other favorite to score. Sent away with a comfortable lead at the start Bianchis mare was able to win all the way. Four outsiders materialized ami favorite backers again fared poorly. May Amelia in the third race, the best-backed favorite on the card, succumbed to the formidable combination of a bad rider and bad racing luck. The start, however, was bad and Preen, the winner, cut sharply across in front, knocking the Bannockburn mare to her knees. Incompetence on the part of Buxton did the rest and much the best horse met defeat by inches. Sanford lost May Amelia by the claiming route subsequently. II. It. Schaffer, owner of Blondy, getting her for .0IK . The starter gave midget Walsh a flying send-off witli Flying Dance in the juvenile race and the Applegate filly spreadeagbd her opposition. Walter Miller is riding a number of bad horses these days and is in almost total eclipse. J. J.. Walsh is expected here the latter part of the week with ten racers from Santa Anita. A man who gave his name as C. Schultz was- arrested in the ring during the afternoon for attempting to steal a watch from Emanuel Paul.
