CROKERS BEST HORSES SAID TO BE AMISS. Rumors unfavorable to Richard Crokers horses, probably without good foundation, are prevalent in Kngland. concerning which The Sportsman says- ""Ridicule has been cast on the idea of Orbv standing another preparation, but why is hard" to understand, for that eminent veterinary authority Mr. Peard. expressed his opinion thai, with rest and treatment and under proper management he should do so. The rest and treatment he has had; but Allen s lot is not an easy one. he having sud-d nly found himself in charge of such a large stable as Mr. Crokers. 1nfavorable reports are unfortunately to hand as to the well-being of Rhodora: aud her half sister, the two-year-old Alabama, by Ameri-cus, for which no less that thirty engagements in Ireland wen- made, has not up to the present fulfilled the high expectations that were not unnaturally formed of her. It Is to be hoped that Rhodora will not. follow in the footsteps of Vain Glory, which, BWheatea as a two-vear-old, has since done nothing. Illinois was another two-vear-old bv Americusl. that was at the top of the form In Ireland, and was to have accompanied Orbv to Kngland last year. but. slipping up on a lump of ungatlored hay. be broke his leg in his final gallop before •Tossing over. Mr. Croker has so far onlv got a lightweight j.H-key attached to his stable, Bullock, who row tor lum last year with such success, having goue to Kngland."
