GREEN SEAL WINS LAST STAKE RACE Seattle Wash September 12 The racing season of ItlOS at The Meadows closed today in a veritable blaze of glory The day was perfect and one of the greatest crowds of the season thronged the inclosure and were rewarded by racing that was positively brilliant The most notable incident of the day was the smashing of the American record for a mile and a sixteenth by Green Seal in winning the Alaska Handieap the final stake of the season Green Seal was in fine fettle and making his oivn pace every inch of the way ran the distance in 144 which recordThe clipped onefifth of a second from the record The association offered a bonus to the trainer of the successful horse should the American record of 1 57s recently equaled here be broken in the run ¬ ning of the fifth race Vox Populi wop the race in easy fashion in lr7S and had he met with any serious opposition it is likely that he could have made a new record for the mile As it was he finished with jockey Cobnrn looking behind through ¬ out the final furlong and actually easing up at the end endGreen Green Seal High Gun and Billy Pullman were winning favorites Toupee and Achieve two other favorites would have won but for poor luck at the barrier barrierJockey Jockey Lycurgus owner C C McCafferty and the horse lack Witt were reinstated This leaves jockeys Kelly Gaugcl Mclntyre Sandy Morgan Bolaud and Carroll under suspension as a result of the meetingIda meeting Ida May was claimed today by Matt Beis for 1323 1323Jockey Jockey Archibald was presented with a beautiful silver cup for making the test showing among the riders of the closing week
