ADAM STARTS FOR FRANCE WEDNESDAY With Him Go TwentyThree Millstream Stud Mares All in Good Condition Lexington Ky September 12 After two seasons as the premier stallion at Millstream Stud the sixyearold French horse Adam son of Flying Fox and Amie dam of Ajax will start on the jour ¬ ney back to his native heath next Wednesday and with him will go twentythree mares twenty of which were mated with him last spring They are to be sold by auction in France during the month of October Manager Charles McCracken of Mill stream Stud will accompany the shipment to New York and see them put aboard the steamer which sails next Saturday From New York to Paris they will have the personal supervision of trainer Tom Welsh of the Newcastle Stable who likewise has an interest with Messrs Andrew Miller and Franklin C Bishop in their racing and breeding enterprises Mr Welsh will remain in France until the twenty four thoroughbreds are disposed of ofAfter After Ormonde Bock Sand and St Blaise Adam is the highest valued thoroughbred that the United States has possessed Mr Bishop bought Adam in Fiance in the summer of 100 after his first season in the stud for 80000 He began service in this country at Millstream Stud in the spring of 1907 covering thirtysix mares From them he has twentytwo living foals and thirteen are colts This is a most excellent showing Tills season be served fortytwo mares making a total of seventyeight for the two seasons For no less than twentyfive of these services the proprietors of Millstream Stud were paid 1000 each From the matrons in the Millstream harem they have ten weanlings five iolls and fillies by him for which Mr John Keid Walker an English horseman is now negotiat ¬ ing These have been priced well up in the four figures each and iu light of the fact that after receiving the quotations by cablegram Mr Walker sent a renrcsenlative here from New York to in ¬ spect the youngsters the expectation here is that they will soon lie following their dams across the pond though to England instead of France FranceA A recent wellposted visitor to the farm from abroad after looking over Adam and remarking upon his splendid pliysical apitearance said I venture that when ho goes into the sales ring there will be some lively bidding for that fellow and it is my judgment that he will bring unite as much as Mr Bishop paid for him and tirobably more They uuiiuestiimahly want him back in France In the light of what they have realized from him and what they will get for him Adam appears to have been an uncommonly gocxl investment for the owners of Millstream Stud but it is hardly to be reckoned so good as If racing had continued undisturbed in this country and they vConld have had his services for another five Or six seasons Adam has been in ¬ sured tot 50000 This is to cover the period from Wednesday next until sold in France The FranceThe twentythree mares to be sent abroad are all believed to be in foal and they are with one exception in the best of health and physical condi ¬ tion Merry Jest injured herself recently but Mc ¬ Cracken does not consider it likely to prevent her shipment Merry Jest is a beautifully bred and comely little mare and should bring a good price abroad The list of mares is as follows followsAgnodiee Agnodiee dam of Dick Shaw and Inauguration chestnut V by Wagner Addie C dam premium at the Blue Grass Fair and the colt out of Candle took the second premium in the same ring yet there have been several visitors to the farm recently who pick Musettes colt as the best looking one in the collection He has straighter legs than either of the others but the Purity colt is unquestionably the better in general conformation Among the fillies the daughter of Virgin Soil is the best to all appearances Mr appearancesMr Miller and his partners have a lease on Oakwood Farm for another three years dating from February 1 next but whether they mean to sub ¬ lease it or continue breeding in a small way has not been made known here If it is their inten ¬ tion to hold the place it is likely that they will put a portion of the nearly 300 acres under cultivation for at least two years
