MATT BYRNES MAY STAY IN ARGENTINA. A letter from Argentina says that out of the joint shipment of 100 broodmares, stallions and youngsters, the property of J. B. Haggin and J. R. Keene. but one death took place, the victim being one of the lot .belonging to the former. The action of the Buenos Ayres Jockey Club in taking a leaf out of tho French Jockey Club rules and regulations, and tliereby formulating a new rule excluding foreign-bred race horses from certain important races, does rot meet with general approbation In Argentine; racing circles. The Jockey Club, however, asserfs that its object in establishing this innovation was not intended to curb the enterprise of breeders in the United States, but as an incentive to owners and breeders in Uraguay to cross the river and locate permanently in Argentina. In any event, it is stated that Messrs. Haggin and Keene "will not sacrifice their offerings at the sale ring, and as Matt Byrnes, in charge of the shipment, intends to settle down permanently in the vicinity of Buenos Ayres, no insurmountable difficulty can present .itself in the, event of "failure, as . a suitable . breeding establishment could, no donhr. be leased if necessary.
