KERCEEVAL HIMSELF AGAIN BURNS HANDICAP WINNER DEFEATS OLD HONESTY IN EASY FASHION. Wintcrgreen Sets a New Track Record Ray H, and Bonart Are Also Winners at 1 Lonff Prices. Cincinnati. O., October 2S. Kcrcheval .won the milo and a furlong handicap, which featured the card at Latonia today. Incidentally he showed a return to something like his former good form, which made it patent that he outclassed his opponents at todays weight allotment. He had up 112 pounds as against Old Honestys 119. The race was conceded to be between this pair, and such proved the case, as Lady IBaldur and Terah. the other starters, were never formidable. Old Honesty attempted to go Into a long lead but Kcrcheval. despite being under hard restraint, stuck closely to him and came away with case when his rider made his final call. Old Honesty ! took second place and Ladv Baldur third. On bla I showing today Terah has staled badly and possibly is in need of a let-up. A handicap at live and a half furlongs, the secondary feature, brought out some of the best youngsters on the ground, ft was taken by T. M. Green from Alice, which gained a flukey decision over Sorrowful for second place. T. M. Green was always in the lead and never gave his backers much anxiety. Sorrowful was kept in a rear position until straightened out for the stretch racing, where she made ud ground rapidly. Under better-judged rldiug -the filly would probably have given T. .M. Green close opposition and finished no worse than second. McGees action in pulling up Maid Militant at the start was held accountable for her failure to land a portion of the purse in the third race, won by Ray II. by a close margin over Ludhiana. The frequent criticism, just and unjust, that has been directed at McGee recently has probably caused the youngster to become rattled. J. B. Respess Dick Welles colt, Wintergreen, bids fair to succeed his former stablemate, Dick Roller, if lie continues to show steady improvement. He was in with a fair band in the opener and made a show of his opposition, only cantering at the end to win as his rider pleased. By running the live furlongs in 1:001 AYintergreen established a new track record. Thirteen mediocre platers went to the post in the fifth race and it furnished a rousing contest between Bonart and Enlist, the former just lasting long enough to gain the purse. There was a mix-up soon after the start in this race, causing Garner to be unseated from Rexall. The rider escaped injury. Raleigh and Brancas fought it out in the last race and J. Butlers superior riding on Raleigh enabled him to win in the last few strides. The victory of three favorites and the strong support accorded nearly all the winners caused the layers to lose heavily. The judges fined jockey McGee 5 for his rough riding and interference on Arionette in the opening race. A carload of horses, the property of L. V. Bellew. A. Beatty and Mrs. J. W. Davis arrived this morning from Toronto, where they had been racing at Dufferin Park. Charles Bowman is reported to have made a big winning by the victory of Bonart in the fifth race. Jockey J. Butler said today that W. K. Vander-bilt is anxious to secure bis contract and has made an offer of 0,000 for his release. The lad is willing to go to France and ride and, if negotiations can be successfully consummated for Butlers release from J. S. Hawkins, he will enter the service of Vanderbilt. Butler will not go to California tills season, but will depend on the opening of New Orleans and Hot Springs to provide racing.
