SIRES OF TWO-YEAR-OLDS. NEXT YEARS PROBABLE LEADING STALLIONS INDICATED BY PROGENYS RACING. Ogden Shows Best, with Disguise Second and Ben Brush, Voter and Paudit Well Up . in the List. The progeny of no stallion are of uniform merit. The crop of one year may be failures in racing, while that of the next season may include great blazing stars of the track. Thus it results that tho positions of the fashionable sires shift from year to year. The successful two-year-olds or this year will have much to do with determining the leading sire list or next year. To throw some light on the probabilities Daily Racing Form has prepared the following statement of the records of the successful two-year-olds under their sires: Ogden. Ogden. second on tho list of leading sires for 1008. has the honor of. leading the sires of two-year-old winners as far as the money earned Is concerned. Wluifever fame the name of Ogden has gained this year has been due to the brilliant achievements of his two greatest sons. Sir Martin and Fayette. Out of seven winning two-year-olds which Ogden sent to the races this year and which earned for uiiu the sum of 11,730. the two aliove named eoltM contributed all but ,090, or to be more concise, the sum of 00,041. Sir Martins brilliant performances are still fresh in mind, his victories in the Great American. Second Half of the Double Event. Flatbush and National Stallion Stakes proclaiming him the two-year old champion of the year. Only recently Mr. Madden, the owner of Sir Martin, received a tempting offer for hiH great colt, but whether or not lie sells him. the American public lias little chance of ever again seeing this marvelous thoroughbred racing In thlM country. Sir .Martin Is nominated ifor many old English stakes and there is no doubt that the greatest son of Ogden will add further honor to hi; sires name, racing in .foreign lands. Fayette, the other worthy son of Ogden. while not as sensational as bis stable companion. Sir Martin, was but little behind him in speed and ability to carry weight. He won the rich Tremout Stakes, the first half of the Double Event and ran second both in the Great American Stakes and Great Trial Stakes. Besides these two great performers the- only other Ogden two-year-old to show any good class form was the filly Lady Bedford, also from the Madden stable. The tollowlng is a record of the Ogden two-vear-olds np to November 1, their individual winnings and money earned: Horse. Sts. 1st. 2d. 3d. Unp. Won. That Disguise holds secoud place in the list o winning Bwo-year-olds is not surprising when we consider that Maskette. the Futurity winner, the fleet Helmet and the brilliant Mellsando were racing for him. Maskette was easily the best filly of the year, and when she ran second to Sir Martin in the Flatbush Stakes it was the only time she was de featiKl. In the third race of her t-areer she gained the distinction of being the fifth filly to win the Futurity, sharing that honor with The Butterflies. LAlouette. Hamburg Belle and Artful. To wlu thl honor she had to defeat the crack colt. Sir Martin, which feat she accomplished in decisive fashion. Maskette only started in six races, of which she won five and was secoud in the other, earning the sum or 3,140. Helmet, with the rich Hopeful Stakes to his credit, and Melisandes consistent work in winning live ont of seven starts, including two stakes, aided their stable companion, Maskette. in bringing fame to the name of Disguise. This lilly was considered 011 t lie verge of a breakdown when George Odom gave Tommy Griflin ,000 for her, but her great record disproved this and It would certainly take a sum several times as large as what Odom paid for her to purchase Trance now. Wedding Bells, another crack two-year-old from the stable of James R. Keene. did not race enough . to lend much aid to fostering the name of Ben Brush, but contributed ,305, the winnings of two races and three secoud moneys.
