.. NOTES OF THE TURF. Gypsy Lass, a two-year-old filly owned by J. F. Clifford, died at Oakland Wednesday. She had been 111 Tor sonic days. Agnolo ran away a mile and a half the other dav while being exercised at the Oakland track, but no eerious effects resulted. Barney Schreiber is very enthusiastic over the band of broodmares that he has at his Woodlands Farm in Missouri in foal to St. Avonicus and Deutschland. Fred Bent, the five-year-old gelding by Salvado Miss Alice III., which has won eleven races this year, was sold by H. R. Schaffer to J. H. Brannon at Oakland last Wednesday. Bubbling Water was badly cut down in her last start and at first it seemed she would not be able to race for some time, but trainer Farrcll is now confident that she will be ready in about a week. Max Hirsch lost a valuable yearling at Oakland Thursday. The youngster was ailing when he was taken off the cars following his trip across the continent last week. Hirsch has three promising yearlings, one. a brown colt by Garry Hermann Run of Luck; another, a chestnut filly by Star Shoot Wood-ray, and a brown colt by Maxio. Electrogowan. a filly by Joe Terry Quatre, that was among the Schwartz yearlings which were auctioned off last Thursday at Oakland and bought by W. J. Billings for 00, is credited with a quarter in 24 seconds, which probably Is the fastest quarter ever worked with a cart. Since then the filly has stepped a quarter In 23? seconds with a boy up. .Tockey C. Ross, who was badly Injured last Monday at Oakland when his mount. Captain Kennedy, fell, "has been quite unfortunate in the matter of falls. He was badly hurt at Los Angeles two seasons ago. and also sustained a fall at Oakland last year. He is a game little fellow and has never shown any signs of timidity nor lacked courage after recovering from these falls.
