NOTES OF THE TURF. John W. Gates is reported to have had one of his characteristic plunging bets down on Sir Martin in the Royal Hunt Cup at Ascot. Hart Dernliam. who has been connected in an official capacity with various Texas meetings, has arrived at Latonia from Texas. Jockey Haynes was suspended at Dufferin Park Thursday for seizing the bridle of a horse against which his own mount was racing. Mark Moore is to have the financial management of the Paducali. Ky.. meeting, scheduled to begin about July 17 and continue for twenty-one days. The purses will mainly be of the 00 variety. It is reported that the attorney-general of Ontario is conducting further investigations relative to alleged betting and illegal operations said to be -arried on under other charters as a direct result of the Dufferin Park inquiry, which has just been terminated. Former fo-key J:ick Martin, now owner, trainer t and driver of a stable of trotters, which tie acquired recently, was a visitor at iravesend Thursday. Martin has purotiased the Mountain Sprint Hotel at Greenwood Lake, about fifty miles from New York. EffeiMii. which won at Gravesend Thursday, had previously failed upon numerous occasions when backed on the strength of fast work, and the Sheepshead Bay contingent who were most familiar with his sensational private trials were about ready to give him up a* a "morning glory."
