LADY ESTHER CUTS RECORD P. M. CIVILLS MARE MAKES NEW MARK FOR HAMILTON TURF COURSE. Runs Mile and Sixteenth Over the Grass in 1:455— Stanley Fay Finishes Last After Other Owners Object to His Starting. Hamilton. Int.. June 2S.— An excellent racing program was provided by the Hamilton Jockey Club tiMlay. Resides the Canadian Handicap, the conditions of which called for starters to be the property of Canadian breeders, there were provided as additional attractions a sprint race at seven furlongs, in which some fast horses went to the post, two steeplechase races and a race over the grass course. The Canadian Handicap was robbed of much of its interest by withdrawals whicli reduced the field to three starters. The owners of the absentees objected to William Walker being permitted to start Stanley Fay in the race on the ground that his breeding farm had not yet materialized. The officials decided that Walker, who has a farm near Toronto, was eligible to start his horse. Stanley Fav, although an iMlds-on favorite, finished last of his field. Tour-enne and St. F.liiiwood both Uatiiig him out. The finish resolved itself into a thrilling drive between the lasr-nanieil pair, with Tourenne tirst past the judges by a short head. It was a stirring contest from start to finish and aroused much enthusiasm. St. Flinwood and Stanley Fay alternated in forcing the early pace and not until straightened out in the homestretch did Tourenne loom un as a dangerous factor. He closed stoutly under punishment and got up to head St. Llmwood in the final strides. P. M. Civills Lady Ksther. the mare that ran away five miles in her last start at Montreal, came back with a cracking giKMl performance In the closing race over the turf course. She came from behind In the stretch and won in track record time of 1:45! for the mile and a sixteenth. Roth steeplechases were won by outsiders — Vilhalla. at t to 1. and Andrew Summers, at 10 to 1. Jockey Reid and Howard each piloted two winners during the afternoon. Sinn nc. winner of the sixth race, was worked out twenty yards more than a mile and a sixteenth in 1:49| as part of his preparation for the Canadian Derby, whicli will be run at Fort Krie next Monday. Simcoe showed keen speed In the race, running the first six furlongs in 1:12. Amos Turtiey reports that his horses -have fjU* recovered from the sickness that attacked them at WiMMlhine and that all are now in tine fettle at Fort Krie. Sig has shown all of his old-time speed in his trials and will he a starter in the Canadian Derby. Martin Doyle is also going along nicely Student King ran in the colors of Nat Rav In todays steeplechase. He purchased the horse of William Garth this morning. P. T. Chimi has purchased of P. J. Malone the two-year-old Decimal, bv Macv — Janet N. The latter is the dam of Crescendo and Rollieoso. Chinn lias disposed of a couple of the horses he has at Toronto. Kenneth R. Davis, of Montreal, purchasing of him John C. Rice and Cleneeho. Charles Royle shipped the three-vear-old. Detective, to Sheepshcad Ray tonight. The colt will carry the Royle colors in the Lawrence Realization Jockey T. Harty. who has been ill at Montreal arrived this morning. J. i:vernian is here from Fort Erie with two horses.
