AFTERMATH OF THE TIDAL. New York. June 2.8. — lames R. Keene was much gratified by the victory of Hilarious in the Tidal, not so much because of the speed the Voter clt showed as because he demonstrated that he could take up his weight and carry his speed over a considerable distance of ground. There were two reasons Hilarious did not run the Tidal mile ami a quarter in better than 2: f. — the going was ctipp.v as a result of rain Friday evening and the Voter colt had to breast a stiff breeze in his run through the long homestretch. These things considered. Hilarious made very good time. He was not extended ill any part of the race, and Mr. Kc-ene believes he will beat Fitz Herbert, the Suburban winner, when he tackles that shifty son of KthellH-rt and Morganatic in the Lawrence- Re-nllzation. The distance- of the Lawrence Realization is one mile and live- furlongs. Sam Hildrith watched Hilarious with critie-al interest in the- Tidal and conceded that the Voter colt made a fust -rate showing. But for all that he is ee.nlide-nt that Fitz Herbert will heat him over the one mile and livi-furlongs route. Horsemen are saying that in discussing the ciue-s-tion of thre-e-ve-ar-old supremae-.v. Mr. Keenes wonderful lilly. Maske-tte. shoulel not be overlooke-d. It is nndersteH.cl that traine-r Kowe be-lieves Maske-tte Is "some pounds" better than Hilarious and more than a niate-h for Fitz Herbert. This epie-stiou eati be- settleel to the satisfaction of the ra.ing publii-if Fitz Herbert and Maskette as well as Hilarious go to the post for the Advance Stakes, for which all three are eligible.
