FORM REVERSALS FREQUENT RACING OF UNSATISFACTORY SORT AT LA-TONIA TRACK YESTERDAY. Majority of Days "Winners Show Marked Improvement Defeats of Belleview and Lillie Turner Costly to Public. Cincinnati, O.. Juno .10. With the exception of the second, in which a fair hand of two-year-olds started, todays races at Latonia were contested by a cheap class of racers, and while they furnished interest ins sport enthusiasm was lacking. Surprises and form reversals were frequent. The suddenly improved showing of Beatrice K., Blacksheop. Mamie Algol and Beau Iirummcl, all of which won. occasioned much adverse comment. The most conspicuous incident attending the racing was a seeming error in judgment on the part of the officials in placing Lillie Turner second, when to everyone else it appeared as if Gilvcdear had heat en the Hayes lilly hy nearly a length. Naturally the hackers of Cilvedeur for second were chagrined over the placing. The hookmakors that is. the more venturesome reaped a harvest by the downfall of the favorites. The defeats of Lillie Turner and Belleview were os-peciallv costly to the public. Hedeems failure also gave them a decided setback. Much crowding resulted from the big lieids, but, fortunately, no spills occurred. Donau easily vanquished his opposition in the llvo-furlongs dash, those beaten including Louise S. and Mae Henley, considered the smartest lillies in the juvenile division. The opener enabled J. 0. Milam to hind another purse when Kva Tanguay came home nearly a length in front of the suddenly improved Banives, witli Redeem a few inches away. Uedeem was undoubtedly best but repeated interference unlimited for his failure to do better. Several of the smart set profited handsomely by the victory of Blacksheop, which they backed from Ml to 1 down to :!0 to 1. The finish of this race was spectacular, the first four I.lacksheep. Hiram. Cablegram and Johnnie Blake passing the judges heads apart. II. G. Bedwell tried to win out Ids recent acquisition. Belleview, I13- backing him extensively to win the closing race, but Beau Bruiumel, showing decidedly improved form, took his measure. Beatrice K. received persistent early backing, developed a great lllglit of sudden speed and wh-u it cauie to the running easily triumphed over Snap and Cohno. The public tried to even matters up by backing Lillie Turner extensively, but the Hayes Illly appeared to be in a sulking mood for the first half :ind then tantalizing- came with a belated burst if speed in the stretch. Jetr Bernstein, an eligible for tho Canadian Derby, was worked here this morning in preparation for tho race. He went a mile and an eighth in 1:53., the lirst mile of which ho traversed in 1 :39s. lie cantered out tho mile and a quarter In 2:08? and finished fresh and strong. If lie readies the Fort Erie track in good shape he should prove a formidable contestant. He will be shipped tomorrow. Because of having run away three miles this morning in a preliminary gallop, the judges excused Mystilier from starting. J. C. Milam will rest his horses at Lexington during tlie Fort Erie meeting and will engage in the racing at Windsor, to which point lie will ship toward the end of the month. He will try to regain his health at West Baden. Stonor Hill, a horse that raced at Dufferin Bark, started here today. No question was raised as to ills eligibility to race, because, it is said, the Ken-lucky Kaclng Commission does not take cognizance of "outlaw" rulings.
