TAME SPORT AT HAMILTON. Glimmer Wins Dominion Plate at Prohibitive Odds Gait Figures in Bad Fall. Hamilton. Ont.. June 30. There was nothing exciting about the racing at the Hamilton track this afternoon: The fields wen; made up of ordinary material and results were in keeping with expectations. What was carded as a feature, tho Dominion Plate, proved a one-sided affair. Glimmer ran coupled with Shimonese as the Valley Farm entry as a 1 to S favorite and won with ease from Cannie Maid. The best contest of the afternoon came with the running of the Jockey Club Cup. the conditions of which called for horses owned and ridden by members of the Hamilton Riding Club. Tho winner of this event turned up in Manuscript, which beat High Bear a neck alter a strenuous stretch drive. Manuscript was ridden by his owner. Mr. Hammond, and his mount was easily best of the field. Woolwinder. Marksman and Glimmer were winning favorites, and jockey J. Roid carried off tho riding honors. He hail the mounts on Fauntleroy and Glimmer. Gait took a nasty-looking tumble in the steeplechase, and for a tune it was thought that he had either broken his own neck or killed his rider. He failed to lift at the sixteen h fence, but tried to brush through ,lt. The resul was that he made a somersault over the jump tnd threw his rider heavily. Fortunately neithn jockey nor horse was hurt seriously, Dayton oscap I with a bruised hip. Previous to the races tod... ithe Canadian Racing Associations held a mooting and passed on .1 number of applications for licenses from jockeys and trainers. A new rule was also passed, the import of which was that 110 person would be permitted to hold a contract on a jockey whoso stable, in the opinion of the license committee. Is not large enough to warrant tho employment of a ridor. The idea of this rule is to eliminate race followers who emphiy jockeys solely for the information they can get for betting purposes. Tomorrow is Dominion Day in Canada, and Secretary Loudon lias made an extra effort to provide an attractive card. The program is made up of eight races and tho horses will lie called to the post In the opening event at 2:30 p. m. Dick Westmoreland, trainer for F. J. Pons, loft for New York tonight to attend the yearling sales at Sheepshead Bay. He will purchase several youngsters and ship them to Kentucky for breaking during tho summer. A. G. Weston and jockey Phil Goldstein left for Montreal tonight. They will remain at Blue Bonnets until the opening of the Saratoga meeting, when thev will leave for the Spa with the Clyde stable. A. Hewitt purchased of J. W. May this afternoon the three-year-old. Patriot, and the colt will run in his interests tomorrow. Marksman, in winning tho third race, established a new record of 4:09 for the steeplechase course of about two miles. The former record was 4:102.
