STARBOTTLE TO BE GIVEN RESPITE. New York, June 30. August Belmont did not take a subscription in the Saratoga Special for the reason that lie has decided to retire .Starlmttle. Ills most promising two-year-old, for the summer. The big Hastings colt that won the Great American at Gnivesend has Ik-coiiic so nervous and irritable it is next lo -impossible to train him. John Whalen believes that a long rest will do liim more good than anything else, and Mr. Belmont is of the same opinion. Starbottie is not out of the running for the sea-eon, however. Wlralen will make a strenuous effort to get him ready for the Futurity, and if he succeeds the Hastings colt will Jill his autumn engagements at Gravoscnd and Belmont Park. Starbottie is a big raw-boned, rangy colt, conspicuously deficient in brawn, and the rest will give him an opjior-tunity to take on sonic flesh.
