A T CONDENSED HISTORY OF THE SWIFT STAKES : The Swift Stakes will be run for the twenty-fifth time this afternoon. Its short distance and its value made the event popular with owners and trainers from its inaugural and in its course the Swift lias been won by some of the greatest horses that ever raced in this country, such grand thoroughbreds as Hanover. Emperor of Norfolk. Reclaro, La Tosca. Requital. Hamburg, Watercolor, Hatasoo, Stalwart, Oiseau, Halifax .".nil King Cobalt figuring in its list of winners. Of these Halifax is not much in the way of a racer at present, but he was a very swift running horse in 1900 and Ids time that year is the fastest ever made in Shis race. That It has always taken a good race horse to win the Swift Stakes becomes evident when it is noted that such cracks as Foitluuil; Kingston, Firenze, Cruiser; Tulla Blackburn, Sir John, Fairy, Nellie Bly, Victory, Gotham, Buddha, Klnley Mack", Brigadier, Killasliandra.
