Star Wave. Donau and Eye White. Incidentally Penn lowered the track record . of 1:00 for iiyc and a half furlongs, mada by "Pa" Bradleys good racer. Traverser, which has, stood the test for twelve years. Penus feat was! much the more meritorious, inasmuch as Traverser had up only S4 pounds, whereas- Penn carried 107. Jlie terrific pace forced by Donau and Eye White played an important part in the lowering of the record. Penn. under good guidance, was favored by the fast pace and, responding in game fashion during the final drive, overtook aiid passed his opponents in the last sixteenth. Eye White and Donau had been the leaders during the first half. The fast pace told on them and Star Wave then flashed into the lead, only to be, displaced near the end by the fast-coming Penn. Star Wave held Donau safe for second phfee. Eye White tired badly and allowed Alfred the Great to lead him to the finish. The latter colt made a surprisingly good showing and may develop Into a good racer. The steeplechase, which was expected to furnish a spectacular contest, proved a one-sided affair. John Dillon, the favorite, assumed the lead early and won in a romp. Class Leader .held Harrington safe for second place. Long Service unseated his rider at the tenth fence and Restoration lost his pilot at the ninth hedge. J. C. Milam scored his first victory of the meeting when his consistent campaigner. Merrick, led home a good band of sprinters in the fourth race. His victory, however, wasi a lluky one. as Ben Double, which finished second, was knocked back "at the. start. Hyperion II. had no ailments-today and was a sharp facto rthroughout. lauding third money. W. H. Fizer took another purse when Qrace Dixon led from barrier rise to ilnisli- in the opening -race. Fizers Anne McGee. which was a hot favorite in the fifth race, disappointed lier backers by ter failure to--finish better thair third; , The mile and a quarter track record of .2:07. held Jointly by Monk Wayinan. and Jessamine Porter since 1900. was reduced to 2:051 by Howard Shean in the closing race. Howard Shean.- running to his, best form, assumed a long lead from the start, arid, never giving his backers a moment of uneasiness", won as his rider pleased from King of -mist; with Dunvegau in third place. Pedro, the favorite, ran far below his best form and was badly beaten off. The bookmakers here are having a disastrous experience. It is estimated that since the opening they have lost approximately 00,000. Twenty-eight layers were in line today. Eugene Landsberg. acting as emissary for the De-Iorimier Park race track. : was here todar soliciting horsemen to ship to the Montreal half mile plartt. He was requested to leave the track as soon as his .mission liecame known. For failure to get away from the post with Rose-burg II.. jockey llannan was suspended by starter Dado for one week. The proposed racing at .Toilet, beginning August 23, is exciting interest among the horsemen here, and the following have signified their intention of shipping consignments there to participate: Charles Wilson. M. Jlurton. M. Ochsner and J. Frcy. Others will also ship part of their strings in time for the opening. ReiKirts from Montreal say that the stakes for the fall racing at Blue Bonnets track have filled remarkably well and it is predicted that the coming meet will eclipse all former ones.
