POOR DAY FOR THE PUBLIC DECEPTIVE GOING UPSETS FORM CALCULATIONS AT WINDSOR. Donau Makes Especially Poor Showing at Short Odds Light Blue and Tremargo- Only Winning Choices. Detroit. Mich.. August 13. Todays racing was ordinary, but the attendance was the best of . the. week and considerable enthusiasm was manifested. The slow, drying track upset form calculations and most of the best backed choices were beaten. Donaus defeat in the opening race was the chief disappointment. The improved showing of .Emperor William iu the feature race occasioned comment. He went out from the start as if bent on spread eagliug his opposition, but after assuming a lead of ten lengths In the first three-quarters, was overtaken and passed by Alice in the final furlong. Palamon and Martin Doyle were the choices in the race, but their showings were below par and neither of them cut much figure in the running. Palamon made a bid after going a slow half, but found the gap separating ltiui from tlie leaders too much to overcome. The steeplechase over the short course went to Harrington in easy style. He led throughout, but his fencing was viewed with alarm, as It was momentarily expected that li would come to grief. He went briskly at the hedges, but liefore reaching1 them swerved badly and went over sideways. This enabled John Dillon and Class Leader, his closest attendants, to close up ground, hut he drew out enough between jumps to allow him a considerable margin for his blundering at the fenqes. Class Leader showed a suddenly Improved performance and threatened John JJillon seriously throughout for second place. Donaus unexpected defeat by Gallant Pirate and Ben K. Sleet was a staggerer to form players. The Gerst colt maintained a good lead for a half mile, but began swerving thereafter and tired perceptibly In the last furlong. Light Blue, in the fifth, was the first choice to finish in front, lie clearly outclassed his opposition and led for the entire distance, Procla outstaying Denver Girl for second money In a sharp drive. Cooney K.. especially favored by the soft track, gained the closest victory of the afternoon when he just got up In time to lieat Edgely. Whim, after many attempts, finally took a purse when she landed the fifth in a canter from Wool-casta. on which the Milam connection attcmp-.d a cleanup. In the closing race It took J. Howards best effort to laud the heavily supported Treniargo winner by a close margin over Malediction. Golcouda, after a sensational stretch run, landed third, place. After the finish of the closing race, Guy Gray bid up Tremargo from 00 to 00. P. M. Civill then cut in with a bid of ,000. but the colt was protected witli an advance of by his owner. Jockey McKinney was suspended for the remainder of the meeting by the judges for his" attempted iu terference with Harrington soon after the start of the jumping race. The horses racing here owned by William Gerst will be shipped to Sheepshead Bay at the close of this meeting. Colloquy. Hanbridge and others owned by G. 11. Holle. will go along. Tlve Windsor track was heavy and holding this morning and trainers restricted their charges to slow gallops. Probable conditions for tomorrow: Weather fine: track good.
