SANFORDS HOPEFUL ELIGIBLES NOT READY. Saratoga, N. Y.. August 33. If is improbable that General Stephen Sanford will have a starter in the Hopeful tomorrow. Herkimer and Baron Dieskau. his best youngsters, are not eligible. One of the nominees for this race is at Hurricana Farm and the other has not shown Hopeful form. The Hopeful candidate trainer H. H. Hyner left at Amsterdam is Chief Bartlett, a .good-looking son of Hock-tou and the old Saratoga favorite. Molly Brant. Chief Bartlett was one of the most highly tried yearlings of the Sanford string last fall and last spring it looked as though he might make a first-rate two-year-old. But he developed a ringbone In June, and trainer Hyner recommended that he be lot alone until next year. Queens Song, a daughter of Clifford and Queen of Song, is the Hopeful eligible that has failed to qualify. This filly is from a mare that twice defeated Voter when that accomplished sprinter was at his best and she has shown sonio speed in work, liut she seems to be off her form just now.
