1 i j i : : SARATOGAS MOST VALUABLE STAKE RACE The Hopeful Stakes will be run for the seventh time this afternoon. Next to the Futurity it is the most valuable stake1 of tlie year for two-year-olds. In the six times it has been run it has been won thrice by Mr. James H. Keono with Delhi in 1!0::, Peter Pan in 1900 and Helmet in 100S. On the line of precedent, he should lose this year, although in irastnere and Sweep lie will probably provide the favorite. Its greatest value was when Tanya defeated Hose of Dawn In 1004 and its least when Helmet won from Perseus last year. Helmet and Perseus are now both in England, where the latter has won several times, while Helmet has been unplaced iu each of his three essays. The present net value of this years Hopeful is 1,910. to which will lie added 50 for each startcr, so that the event will be considerably more valuable than it was last year.
