LAYERS HEAVY LOSERS AT SARATOGA. Saratoga, N. Y.. August IB. It Is asserted that a majority of the professional layers of odds have lost heavily here, this month. George Rose, Tom Shaw. William Beverly. Max Marks and A. J. Levy have been particularly hard hit. according to report. It is said that Tom Shaw has had an especially disastrous experience. Just how much he has lost cannot be ascertained, but from men who are In close touch with him it is learned that he was many thousands of dollars poorer than when he arrived in this village. Shaws inability to pick winners has now become a byword with the men who lay the odds. Where formerly his money was feared because It carried with it a potent influence to return again to its owner with valuable interest attached to it. it is now accepted gladly. In the days when Shaw was phenomenally successful, his money was called "educated." Now It is termed "soft and easy."
