; FOET ERIE CONTESTS GOOD KING SOLOMON GOES LAME WHILE RUNNING AS HANDICAP FAVORITE. Righteasy Surprises Public by Vanquishing Good Band of Sprinters Jockey Kennedy-Develops BadTemper and Is Suspended Buffalo, N. Y., August 31. Threatening weather, caused a slight decrease in todays attendance at Fort Erie, but those present were an enthusiastic aggregation rand heartily applauded the winners. A handicap at three-quart ers for two-year-olds was the feature. It produced spirited betting and a rattling good contest. The held of six ran closely grouped for the entire distance. Amanda Lee took the purse by a scant margin from Belle Clem, with Fear-naught II. in third place. King Solomon, the favorite, ran disappointingly, but his poor- showing was due to his having fallen lame after completing the first quarter. Fbrez also limped perceptibly after the finish. The riding of Guy Burns was a feature. He piloted three of the afternoons winners. In the fifth race, which succeeded the handicap, a fair baud of short-distance sprinters contested and an upset resulted. Righteasy. coupled with Ace of Diamonds as the Bedwell entry, which had received but passing notice, turned up the winner, with Theo Cook second and Marchmonet third. Speculation had chiefly centered about Dr. Waldo Briggs and Ozana. Both ran poorly and failed to be prominent at any stage. "Snapper" Garrison managed, after many unsuccessful attempts, to land a purse when Aunt Kate won the opener from a poor band of maidens. She-was a lukewarm favorite, but her connections backed her extensively In out-ofttown commission rooms and profited handsomely. Johnnie Blake showed a Hash of his old-time form in the second race, which he won after a spirited drive to down Heine, with Boserrian crowding the pair closely near the end. Anne McGee outclassed those in the third race and spreadeagled her opponents after shaking off Lady Chilton in the first quarter. Fair Annie and Lud-liiana had it out for second place ami finished in the order named. Merry Gift stumbled at the start and unseated Guy Burns, who picked himself up uninjured. The closing dasli went to J. W. Schorrs Tecently acquired Joe Rose, which won from his former stablemate. Black Hawk. The talent experienced another setback In Uw sixth race when Carthage was taken into camp by Gemmell. It was the latters initial success since becoming the property of P. B. Respess. He showed a good performance, going into the lead at the start and remaining there throughout. Carthage was given a slovenly ride, which contributed to his defeat. Jockey Taplin canceled his engagements during the afternoon on account of illness. Owner J. R. Wainwright has concluded to keep jockey Kennedy on the ground until the rider shows more tractability. According to trainer Fred Luza-der, Kennedy of late has developed an ungovernable temper and unnecessarily punishes the horses he rides. His latest victim was John E. McMillan, a horse which he exercised this morning. Word was received todav from Sheepshead Bav that the good colt. Star Wave, in John Dyments string, is not expected to recover from his attack of lung fever. Elmer Wilson, who has been assisting starter Dade hero, departed toda3" for Baltimore, where he is engaged to do the starting during the coming hunt club meeting. For getting into an altercation at the track yesterday, the judges ordered that the horses entered by M. E. Henry in the third and sixth races today be scratched. McIIenry was also requested to leave the track until an investigation of the case is concluded.
