BIG PRIZES LEFT OVER FOR NEXT YEAR. Futurity, Lawrence Realization, Belmont, Matron and Hopeful Stakes of 1910. Tills year all of the elder New York racing organizations had costly stakes hanging over from closings made prior to the passage- of tm Hart Agnew law and to this it Was due that the- racing of this .year was still adorned with the runniug of .the Withers, Belmont, Lawrence Realization. Hopeful. Spinaway, Carlton, National Stallion, Futurity and -Matron Stakes. Next year the Brooklyn Jockey Club is exempt, but the Westchester Racing Association has the Belmont ami. Matron Stakes of 1910. which closed in 1907, The Coney Island Jockey Club ban the Futurity and Lawrence Realization, and tho Saratoga Association has the Hopeful Stakes. Ex cent the Belmont Stakes, these events were closed unchanged in condition and values. ;An apparent complication exists in the case of the Belmont of 1910. When announced it was changed from a race of the guaranteed value of 0,000 to one of 0,000 added, and as such closed October 15, 1908. with 110 nominations of foals. Under its conditions a further nomination of yearlings was due Octolei-15, 1908. but It does not appear that any were inadu or that the customary advertisement inviting such additional nominations was published. Whether this was an oversight following the death of clerk of the scales II. G. Crickmore, or a matter decided upon 13 the association is loft" to conjecture. At any rate, the race still stands and apparently is, limited to such as may be fit to race of the foal nominations, of which more than half were made by J. B.-llaggln. It is probably news to the majority that these; big stakes are still In existence to add to the interest of racing in 1910. Moreover, they all filled! well and so greatb has the outlook for racing changed sinced the opening at Belmont Park last spring, it is quite probable the officials of the clubs interested are not at all displeased to have them on hand.
