RUNNING OF THE FLYING HANDICAP Being designed to give the sprinters a chance, the Flying Handicap has been contested from year to year by horses of great speed over short distances. Its second winner. Domino, was not only extremely fast, but a stayer as well and. after he retired from racing, gave to the turf Commando and, through him. Colin, Celt. Peter Pan and other superb racers. Rey del Caredes, its third winner, was bred by "Lucky" Baldwin and. after winning many times in this country, was taken to England by Richard Croker and, under the new name of Americus, was a successful racer there and a still more successful sire. Bendoran, Toluca, Dublin, Hatusoo, Shot Gun, Broomstick and Inquisitor were all horses of tremendous speed when at their best, as also were such unsuccessful aspirants to Flying Handicap honors as Simmons, Harrington, Typhoon II., Swiftmas, Ileliobas, Reina, Gay Boy. Bine Girl. Lady Amelia and Restigouclie. the latter being still in training and likely to be conspicuous in nearby racing over the New York tracks. The record of the event is as follows: Year. First.
