PRINCE AHMED IS VICTOR ADMIRABLY HANDLED, HE SCORES LUCKY WIN AT FORT ERIE. Meadow, Probably Best in Handicap, Meets with Costly Interference Winterliko Weather Reduces Attendance at Canadian Track. i. Buffalo. N. Y., September I. Cold and bleak weather detracted from the enjoyment of racing at Fort lErie today and caused a slump In the attendance. Prince Ahmed reinstated himself in the good graces of his admirers by an impressive victory in tho handicap feature of the card over a good band of opponents, to which he was conceding much weight. He was ridden in masterly style by jockey Mentry. who kept him close up to the leaders during the first six furlongs, and prevented him from bolting at tho stretch turn. Once settled for the final effort Prince Ahmed gradually wore down the leaders and outstayed Meadow in a strenuous end drive. Meadaw probably was best today, but lost much ground on the stretch turn, where she was sharplj-impeded and forced to go .wide. Tom Hayward also showed well by taking third after being knocked back on the first turn. The steeplechase was attended by an upset. Canvas and John Dillon were the choices. The former was a forward contender for most of the distance and -encouraged his backers until almost the last hedge, then tired badly as if short and failed to land among the placed ones. John Dillon came to grief alter scaling the third hedge, when he made a had landing and ultimately unseated his rider. Lizzie Flat, running to her best form, moved into the lead after having followed Canvas and Class Leader over the first nine hedges and only had to canter near the end to land the purse. Class Leader was just as easily second in advance of the poorly ridden Bergoo. The Canadian-brwls were an ordinary lot and it was easy for Shimonese to win the race devoted to them. She simply toyed with her opposition and finished tinder a stout pull. Prince Rhuperd. a first-time starter, managed to outstay Bilberry for second place. After many efforts Selwik found opposition that lie could beat and broke from the maiden ranks. He led throughout the running. The undersized Inflection made a game showing Ik the fifth race, when she stood a gruelling drive to outlast the inadequately .handled English Esther.-The latter was best, but swerving at a critical time-encompassed her defeat. St. Jeanne, extensively supported, trimmed the speedy Anna L. Daley with little trouble and won by a comfortable margin. The closing dash had fourteen starters, the largest number of the meeting. Floreal landed the purse, with Grenesque and Ken-mare Queen placed behind her. Kenmare Queen had been backed from 41 to 1 to half that price and came close to bringing off a coup. Many of the horsemen are making preparations to ship part of their strings to Blue Bonnets for the opening day. Probably three carloads of horses, the projierty of various owners, will be shipped from here tomorrow. The judges today ordered Myron E. McIIcnry to remove his horses from the track, and have voted to deny him further privileges as a result of hi disorderly conduct of last Monday. Announcement that James Milton has been engaged to do the starting1 at Dufferin Park is premature. Milton has not heard of the appointment. W. W. Lvles confirms an announcement of his appointment as- associate judge at Dufferin Park. A. L. Kirby and F. B. Respess will shin their horses at the closo of this meeting to Louisville, where they will bo rested until the opening at Churchill Downs. . . , , Llovd B. Wood of San Francisco, who is photographing the thoroughbreds on the Canadian, circuit this season, was married a few days ago to Mary E. Durkin of London. Out. Mr. Wood was kept busy receiving congratulations from his friends at the course this afternoon.
